Food Near Mandalay Bay Las Vegas

Mandalay Bay sits at the far south end of the Las Vegas Strip. That location is one of the things that makes it appealing as a resort: quieter than the north-central section of the boulevard, with the beach and pool complex, a large events center, and a convention hall that makes it a popular conference destination. The tradeoff is that stepping outside the property for food requires more walking than it would from a hotel positioned in the middle of the Strip.

This guide covers what is immediately near Mandalay Bay, the walk north to Showcase Mall and what you will find there, and when to use a rideshare instead of walking. The point is not to steer you away from Mandalay Bay's own restaurants, several of which are genuinely worth eating at. It is to give you the context to make the decision on your own terms.

What is near Mandalay Bay

Mandalay Bay is connected to Delano Las Vegas and Vdara by a tram and walkway system, which expands the internal dining options somewhat. Within the Mandalay Bay complex itself, you have a range of restaurants from the casual (the food court on the lower level, a few quick-service spots near the pool area) to the more formal: Aureole, Border Grill, and Stripsteak are among the full-service options. The House of Blues restaurant and a handful of other branded venues fill out the lineup.

The food is generally solid. The prices reflect the property: you are in a major Vegas resort, and the margins on everything from a burger to a fine dining tasting menu are set accordingly. Guests who stay at Mandalay Bay for several days often find that eating every meal on property starts to feel expensive regardless of quality.

Immediately outside the property, the stretch of the Strip directly in front of Mandalay Bay is less dense with dining options than the central corridor. The Luxor and Excalibur are the nearest properties to the north, both with their own food courts and restaurants. None of these options require a particularly long walk.

The Strip walk north to Showcase Mall

The walk from Mandalay Bay to Showcase Mall is a genuine Strip stroll: roughly 12 to 15 minutes on foot heading north along Las Vegas Boulevard, covering about a mile. You will pass the Luxor (recognizable by its pyramid), then Excalibur (the castle-shaped property), then cross Russell Road and continue north past the Tropicana and MGM Grand. Showcase Mall is the next major building on the east side of the boulevard after MGM Grand, right at the corner of Tropicana Avenue and Las Vegas Blvd.

The walk is interesting in the way that a Strip walk is always interesting: there is enough going on along the boulevard that the time passes faster than the distance suggests. The sidewalks are covered for much of this stretch. In summer, the heat is real, and most people who are not already planning to walk the Strip for other reasons will prefer a rideshare for this distance.

The route passes some useful landmarks if you want to stop along the way. The Luxor food court and New York-New York's restaurant cluster at the Park MGM complex (just before Showcase Mall) are both viable alternatives if you want something before reaching Showcase Mall.

The Birria King ($16.95) and Dirty Motley ($15.95) are solid mid-range options if you want something more filling than a basic potato but less than the large builds.
